Engaging Advent with a Prayerful Heart: Words Mattew
11:45am-12:30pm
in Wood Fellowship Hall
On Sunday, November 30, join Betsy Lawrence in conversation about the Creeds, examined through the lens of Advent themes.
Do you know how and when “our creed” was written? Do you know that there are multiple creeds written and used by Christian communities through the centuries? What creed can you recite from memory without looking at the Prayer Book or bulletin? We will explore the history of the creeds and spend time practicing saying them not just from memory, also by heart.
On December 7 join facilitator Randy Evans in an exploration prayer in the season of Advent: How do we prepare for Jesus’ birth and second coming, and how does preparation during the four weeks of Advent compare to how we prepare for the 40 days of Lent? Are the colors, symbols, and words the same or different? We will use this discussion to draft short personal Advent prayers to either share with others or keep for God alone.
In the final Advent gathering, we’ll spend time with different translations of the Lord’s Prayer: Yes, there are many. Join us as we explore several versions of the Lord’s Prayer and take a deeper look into the meaning behind the words we can recite by memory and by heart.
