Emmanuel Outreach
Our parish contributes to several local agencies providing emergency relief, and we are committed to supporting collaborative ministries that improve the lives of people in need from our community. If you are experiencing an emergency, please visit mi211.org for a list of resources available to help with housing, utilities, and other essential services.
The Outreach Ministry of Emmanuel takes seriously the scriptural teachings of Jesus, the prophets, and the apostles, regarding the essential quality of living out our faith in tangible and impactful ways. We do this through faithful and generous stewardship of our money, time, passions, and experiences. As a congregation, we currently support the following initiatives and ministries:
Thursday Lunch Program
For over 15 years, Emmanuel Episcopal Church and Cross of Christ Lutheran Church have partnered with First Presbyterian Church to serve a hot lunch at the Presbyterian Church fellowship hall at 501 East Mitchell. Lunch is served from 12-12:45pm on Thursdays. To volunteer, contact Pam Carpenter through the church office.
Northern Michigan Interfaith Common Ground
Northern Michigan Interfaith Common Ground is a gathering of people of faith working together to support the well-being of our community. Emmanuel is a joyful member of this organization, sharing in interfaith worship, advocacy, and collaborative partnerships to work toward justice, peace, and love.
Humanitarian & Mission Trips
We raise funds to support First Hand Aid, a humanitarian organization that distributes medical supplies to the people of Cuba. All who have served through these humanitarian trips report that it has deepened their understanding of what it means to follow Christ’s teachings.
CROP Walk
The Crop Walk supports national efforts to end hunger, as well as supporting MANNA, our local food pantry. It occurs on the last Saturday in June in Bay View. We gather at 8:30 a.m. to register and turn in our donor envelopes. You’ll see Emmanuel walkers in bright green t-shirts designed by our younger parishioners. We often have the largest group! Sometimes, a Dixieland swing group kicks off the event. We follow a 1 – 1.5 mile walk around the beautiful campus. Back at the registration area, we’re often served ice cream cones. This is a fun way to get the church family out on a Saturday morning to raise funds for a great cause.
Episcopal Relief and Development
Our annual drive to support ERD yields food, financial assistance, and disaster relief for people affected by weather-related catastrophes. Their Help End Hunger campaign spreads through the US and the world. ERD’s experience handling relief efforts worldwide means that our contributions reach those affected more quickly and efficiently.
