Nursery: Ages 0-3
Our nursery provider is our only paid youth program employee. Lindsey is on staff to make sure that our youngest members are cared for in the best way. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and is CPR certified. If we ever need to have more hands in the nursery, we have wonderful volunteers from the congregation that help Lindsey out from time to time.
Godly Play/Worship Center: Ages 4 - 2nd grade
The curriculum for this age group is called “Godly Play.” The Godly Play approach teaches classical Christian language in a way that enhances the child’s authentic experience of God. Worship Center meets during the 10:00 a.m. service on the second floor. Most children are 4 when they begin Godly Play, however we have had some very attentive and verbal 3 yr olds who are able to listen to and engage in an interactive story. After the lesson, children are led back into the sanctuary to rejoin their families and the congregation for Communion.
Sunday School: 3rd - 6th grade
The curriculum for this age group is called Shine, and the lesson plans emphasize God's call to justice, peace, and love. Each lesson includes an interactive activity to engage the children in their reading of scripture. Sunday School meets during the 10:00 a.m. service in the Sunday School room on the second floor. After the lesson, children are led back into the sanctuary to rejoin their families and the congregation for Communion.
Middle School and High School Youth Groups
We are currently re-booting our Youth Group and are very excited for the school year ahead! The Middle School Youth Group will meet twice a month after the 10:00 AM service, and we'll continue to focus on service, while also supporting spiritual formation in fun and engaging ways.
Summer Youth Camps
A week of church camp leads to as much spiritual growth as a year of Sunday School. It makes lifelong memories and enduring friendships. Youth at Emmanuel are welcome and encouraged to attend camps through the Diocese of Eastern Michigan or the Diocese of Western Michigan.
